I’ve been seeing a lot of talk online about hustle culture. Some of it’s valid. No one should burn out trying to prove themselves. But I’ll be honest with you…
Being obsessed (hustle mentality) is what got us here.
That underdog energy? That chip on your shoulder? That deep knowing you were made for more—even if no one else saw it yet? Yeah, I know that feeling well. We used it. We fed it. We let it fuel the obsession even more. When Matt and I first started building BEAUTISTA (then called Canvas ME), we weren’t just passionate—we were obsessed.
We knew this wouldn’t work if we treated it like a side project. So we made a decision:
Cut the noise. Get laser-focused. Go all in.
We had one rule that kept us grounded:“Is what I’m doing right now bringing me closer to my goals?”We asked it constantly.
Before scrolling. Before saying yes. Before turning on Netflix.And it changed everything.
No negative lyrics. No gossip. No energy leaks. We literally set timers to vent—five minutes, max—and then we moved on. Why? Because complaining doesn’t build empires. Obsession does.
Obsession with leveling up.Obsession with purpose.Obsession with becoming the kind of person who could carry the weight of the dream.
I think hustle culture gets a bad rap. But the people I respect the most? They didn’t coast. They trained.
Sam Villa told us he sat in front of a mirror for hours and hours to refine his teaching style. Years of discipline. Not luck. Not vibes. Just relentless repetition—because purpose demanded it.
And yeah, it’s hard.
But if you want what most people don’t have, you’ve got to be willing to do what most people won’t.
That’s what this season is about.
Rewriting the rules. Not to make them easier. But to make them yours.
