I stopped trying to push through.

"Every story changes the moment the character decides."

🖤 From Jen: Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired.

Hi BEAUTISTA fam.

I’ve been sick this week. Like really sick. The kind where your head is in the clouds, your voice sounds contagious, and even thinking feels like work. And it threw me off because I haven’t been sick like this in years. I almost forgot what it felt like. My first instinct was the same as always—push through. There’s too much to do. Too many meetings. Too many things that “can’t wait.” So I tried. Showed up where I could, closed my eyes in between, convinced myself I could outwork it. By the end of the week… I couldn’t.

So I finally surrendered. Heated blanket, cozy couch, and a rotation of 80s and 90s movies—10 Things I Hate About You, The Goonies, Rocky—all of the greats :).  And watching them like that, I noticed - It’s the same story every time, just dressed up differently. The character starts stuck. Guarded. Doubting themselves. Playing small. And then something happens— They get to a point where they’re done. Done being who they’ve been. Done believing what they’ve believed. Done sitting in the same pattern.

In 10 Things I Hate About You, the main character has built walls so high no one can get in until she decides to risk it anyway. In Rocky, he’s not just an underdog—he’s someone who doesn’t see himself as worthy of the moment. And then he decides he’s going to show up anyway. Train, take the hits, step into the ring. Not because he’s guaranteed to win, but because he refuses to stay where he is.

That’s the moment. This is what every great coach AND every great story points to. Change doesn’t happen when things are easy. It happens when you get sick and tired of being sick and tired. When staying the same becomes more painful than doing something different. That’s when the story shifts.

And it’s no different for us. We all have that place where we’re stuck. Where fear is running quietly in the background—not always loud, but enough to keep us playing smaller than we should. Not putting ourselves out there. Not charging what we’re worth. Not going after the thing we actually want. And we stay there… until something clicks. Until we decide we’re done.

Done waiting. Done doubting. Done holding back.

And that decision—that’s the turning point. Not when everything is perfect. Not when the fear disappears. But when you move anyway.

Every great story has that moment. You don’t need a movie to see it. You’re in it. The only question is… are you still at the beginning, or are you at the part where it changes?

xoxo

-Jen Martinelli

🚀 The Shift: Weekly Mindset + Strategy Upgrade.

Find Your Turning Point This Week.

1. Identify one area where you’ve been stuck.

Something you’ve been putting off, avoiding, or overthinking.

2. Call it out honestly

Not “I’ve been busy.” Not “timing isn’t right.” Just the truth: I haven’t moved because…

3. Decide you’re done

Not next week. Not when it’s perfect. Decide now.

4. Take one action immediately

Send the message. Post the work. Raise the price. Have the conversation.

You don’t need the whole plan. You need the moment where you stop being who you’ve been… and start moving differently.

That’s where the story changes.

🎙️ In Case You Missed It (ICYMI)

If you want to level up your blonding (don’t wait on this one):

1. Matrix – Underpainted & Ultra Lifted Balayage with Constance Robbins

This is the viral underpainting technique clients are asking for right now—strategic placement for that “expensive,” lived-in result.

👉 Translation: higher-ticket blonding + modern, in-demand looks

Replay available until April 30 only

If you want more predictable color results (and less guesswork):

2. L’Oréal Professionnel – Metal Detox Certification

This is one of those “why didn’t I know this sooner” classes. Metals in the hair are a hidden reason behind breakage + inconsistent color results.

👉 Translation: better results, less rework, more trust from clients

If you want to increase retail without feeling pushy:

3. BIOLAGE – Essential Product Immersion

This goes beyond product knowledge—it teaches you how to actually recommend based on the client in your chair.

👉 Translation: more take-home sales + stronger client loyalty

If you want luxury results without compromising hair health:

4. L’Oréal Professionnel – iNOA Essentials

Ammonia-free color, better scalp comfort, and high-impact results. This is where formulation meets experience.

👉 Translation: elevate your services + attract higher-end clients

If you want to level up your blonding game:

5. REDKEN – Lift & Tone Pro Connect

Blonde services are still one of the highest-demand (and highest-ticket) services. This helps you get consistent, clean results every time.

👉 Translation: more confidence + more premium bookings

If you want faster services without sacrificing results:

6. Living Proof – Blow-Dry Like a Boss

Speed matters—but not at the expense of quality. This shows you how to deliver both.

👉 Translation: save time behind the chair + increase daily revenue

(Pro tip: Pick one replay that directly supports what you want to earn or improve this month — and start there.)

💻 Tech-Forward:

Where tech meets beauty (and your next big move begins).

The way your clients search has changed—and most people haven’t caught up yet.

They’re not starting on Google. They’re starting on TikTok.

Not to find a salon… but to understand what they want first.

“low maintenance blonde”

“how to fix damaged hair”

“keratin before and after”

This is where decisions are happening.

And the data backs it:

  • 65% of Gen Z are already using TikTok as a search engine

  • 72% are discovering new brands and services there

So the opportunity isn’t “post more.” It’s showing up for what people are already searching.

Here’s how to use it this week:

  1. Ask AI what your clients are searching

Try: “What are the most searched TikTok topics for blonding services right now?”

Or: “What do clients search before booking a keratin treatment?”

  1. Turn that into content

Pick one and record a quick video answering it:

“Here’s what low-maintenance blonde actually means…”

“Here’s why your blonde turns brassy and how I fix it…”

  1. Keep it simple and consistent

You don’t need a content calendar. You need one relevant post a day that answers real questions.

Because the shift isn’t social vs search anymore. Social is search. And AI makes sure you’re showing up for it.

What we're learning from Hiring Funnels:

Where Candidates Drop Off (And Why)

When you run a BEAUTISTA Premium campaign, you’re not just getting traffic—you’re getting a full funnel. At the center of that is your BEAUTISTA career page (your “human” page), where candidates go deeper, learn about you, and actually move through the application process.

Now here’s where it gets interesting. We often tell BEAUTISTA Premium clients to link their website back to their career page. Not because it’s a “nice to have,” but because we know what candidates actually do after they see your ad—they go look you up.

They check your Instagram. They search your website. They want to validate that this is real before they take the next step.

So when someone lands on your website and there’s no clear path back to your BEAUTISTA career page, that’s where the drop-off happens. Not because they weren’t interested—but because there was no next step.

And now we have the data to prove it:

• Career page connected → ~14% of conversations turn into applicants (about 1 in 7)

• Not connected → ~6–7% (about half that)

Same traffic. Same opportunity. Different outcome.

Because one keeps the funnel connected—and the other leaves it up to chance.

Now, to be clear—you can still get results without linking. We’ve seen it. But it’s less predictable, harder to scale, and harder to repeat.

The takeaway isn’t that your campaign won’t work. It’s that you’re leaving conversions on the table.

If people are already searching your website… make sure it leads them where you want them to go.

🔥 What’s Happening:

Virtual Live Events You Don’t Want to Miss

Next Live Virtual Classes

There’s a LOT happening right now—but these are the ones actually worth your time (because they either make you more money, better at your craft… or both).

If you want to elevate your finishing work (this is what clients actually notice first):

Bumble and bumble – Flatbrush Blowdry

🗓 Apr 6 @ 10AM EST

This isn’t your basic blowout. This is tension, control, and the difference between “done” and polished.

👉Translation: better finishes = higher perceived value = better tips + retention

If you want to stay ahead of where the industry is going:

Malibu C – Science of Scalp Wellness

🗓 Apr 6 @ 11AM EST

Scalp is no longer “extra”—it’s becoming a core service category.

👉Translation: new services + new revenue stream (before everyone else catches on)

If you want more balance without burning out:

SUMMIT – Life Work Balance

🗓 Apr 6 @ 11AM EST

Not fluff—actual systems to manage time, boundaries, and energy in a fast-paced salon life.

👉Translation: better boundaries = longer career + less burnout

If you want to push your creativity (and stand out online):

Pravana – Dragon Scales: Strategic Placement

🗓 Apr 6 @ 1PM EST

Creative color is having a moment—and this is how you separate yourself.

👉Translation: scroll-stopping work = more visibility + new clients

If you want to increase retail (without feeling awkward):

Matrix – Make Bank With Retail

🗓 Apr 8 @ 11AM EST

This breaks down how to sell naturally—not scripted, not pushy.

👉Translation: more revenue per client without working more hours

If you want faster services + more revenue per day:

Living Proof – Reset Without the Redo

🗓 Apr 7 @ 12PM EST

Learn how to refresh styles instead of starting over.

👉 Translation: save time behind the chair + fit more clients in your day

(And if you’re reading this as a salon owner or educator — send your team. One class can shift an entire culture.)

Brian Of London | 📍 The Woodlands, Texas

OPEN ROLES

There’s a difference between finding your next chair… and finding a place you can actually build a career. Brian of London is one of those places.

For over 40 years, this salon has built something most people are still chasing—a loyal, multi-generational clientele and a reputation rooted in consistency, professionalism, and quality. The kind of place where clients come back for years… not just once. And that changes everything for you.

Because instead of starting from zero, you’re stepping into an environment designed for growth from day one.

Right now, they’re hiring across multiple roles:

Experienced Hairstylist (2+ years) – If you’re ready to refine your craft, grow your book, and work alongside a team that values professionalism and artistry

Assistant / Apprentice – A structured, hands-on path to becoming a stylist with real mentorship and weekly education built in

Front Desk Coordinator – For someone who thrives in organization, client experience, and being the heartbeat of a well-run salon

No matter where you are in your career, there’s a clear entry point—and a path forward.

Here’s what makes this different:

  • An existing client base (so you’re not rebuilding from scratch)

  • A mentorship-driven, team-oriented culture

  • Weekly education and ongoing skill development

  • Commission starting at 45% + a guaranteed base while you build

  • A polished, supportive environment where people actually stay

And that last part matters. Because the best salons aren’t the loudest—they’re the ones where people build long, stable, successful careers over time.

🔦 BEAUTISTA Spotlight

Diana Custance | St. Petersburg, FL

Cosmo | Aveda Institute Tampa Bay

Some people fall into beauty. Others always knew.

Diana Custance is one of those artists who’s been creating for as long as she can remember—but what makes her stand out isn’t just skill… it’s intention.

From painting and illustration to crocheting custom pieces, Diana has always expressed herself through art. But what’s powerful is how she translated that into beauty—not just as a craft, but as a way to connect with people. Long before stepping fully into her career, she was already doing hair and makeup for real clients, building confidence, creating moments, and understanding that this industry is about more than how something looks—it’s about how it makes someone feel.

That’s what makes this portfolio different. You can feel it. There’s a level of care, creativity, and purpose behind her work that goes beyond “just starting out.” She’s already thinking like a professional who understands the experience, not just the service. And that foundation matters.

Because she’s a graduate of Aveda Institute Tampa Bay—a school known for producing artists who understand both technical skill and the why behind their work. That combination shows up here in a big way.

Here’s why Diana is someone to watch:

  • A true artist across multiple mediums—not just hair, but makeup, fashion, and design

  • Real-world experience before and after school (not just practice mannequins)

  • A clear point of view—beauty as connection, not just execution

  • Already building her brand and presence with intention

And that’s the shift we’re seeing more and more. The next generation of BEAUTISTAS aren’t waiting until they’re “ready.” They’re building. Creating. Putting themselves out there.

Diana is already doing that.
