Hi BEAUTISTA fam.


This week I was talking to one of my best girl friends, and we were both feeling it. The weight of everything. Work. Kids. House. Deadlines. The constant mental load of being responsible for so much. The constant feeling that if we just push a little harder we’ll finally catch up - even though we don't. It was two women who feel responsible for a lot, saying it out loud - aka venting. LOL!


At some point in the middle of that conversation, my mentor brain kicked in. That morning I had been listening to Jim Rohn, and the chapter was about how we pride ourselves on showing up for everyone else. We show up and say, “I’ll take care of you.”  With our kids. Our spouses. Our family. Our friends. And we mean it. We sacrifice. We overextend. We stretch ourselves thin in the name of love, leadership, loyalty. 


But Jim challenged that entire philosophy. He said the better agreement is: “I’ll take care of ME for you, if you’ll take care of YOU for me.”


So naturally, I shared this with my friend and the energy shifted. Not because it solved our responsibilities. The to-do lists didn’t disappear. But the lens changed. We started looking at the problem differently. Instead of bonding over exhaustion, we started talking about alignment.


Jim teaches that your philosophy determines your life. If your philosophy is that your worth is measured by how much you can carry, you’ll carry yourself straight into depletion. But if your philosophy is that growth requires maintenance, then taking care of yourself becomes leadership. It becomes strategy. We say “you can’t pour from an empty cup,” but most of us are still pouring and hoping we don’t run dry. So we stopped listing everything that felt heavy and started asking a better question: what actually fills us? Coffee at the mall. A meditation class next week. Small, intentional choices that recalibrate us instead of drain us. 


It sounds simple. It is simple. But Jim also says success is a few simple disciplines practiced every day.  When you are sharp, centered, grounded — you don’t just feel better. You lead better. You parent better. You create better. You make clearer decisions. You respond instead of react.


This week, check in with yourself. Are you taking care of the person everyone else depends on? The new agreement isn’t “I’ll take care of you.” It’s “I’ll take care of me for you.”

Jim Rohn teaches that your life changes when your disciplines change. Not when your circumstances change. Most people try to overhaul everything at once. That’s not discipline — that’s reaction. The shift is smaller than that. Pick one thing this week that is maintenance for you.


Maybe it’s:

  • Going to the gym twice.

  • Blocking 30 minutes to think without your phone.

  • Booking the coffee with a friend.

  • Signing up for a Meditation, or Yoga Class

  • Saying no once.

  • Going to bed earlier.

Because if you don’t intentionally maintain yourself, life will slowly run you into depletion — and you won’t even notice until you’re exhausted. Leadership starts with self-leadership. Take care of you for them. That’s the shift.
